Frequently asked questions

What to do if I miss the LIVE session?

We record every live session. So just watch the recorded session whenever you have time for it :)

When does the bootcamp start?

The bootcamp starts from February 2021. Once started, new students can enter any time. For the live calls e.g. it doesn't matter if you just started out with Module 1 or are already on Module 5. Everyone can ask questions no matter how far along you are with the program. Also each live lecture is recorded and later accessible for all participants.

Can I work beside the bootcamp?

Yes! The bootcamp is created with working students in mind, because our participants are often already working as a SysAdmin or Developer transitioning to DevOps. That being said, you can watch the online courses, materials and work on the exercises whenever you want. Be it before going to work, on the weekends or late at night. That is up to you. That's why live calls are held in the late afternoon or evenings. Mind timezones! As already pointed out, in case you miss something just watch the recorded versions.

How do I get most out of this program?

For a successful completion of the program, it's important to watch ALL the supplied resources each week and do ALL the exercises. Work at your pace, but don't take too long. The most important thing is to practice, practice and practice with the provided labworks and exercises. It will help you learn faster and give you confidence at work, when applying the technologies in practice. Therefore in each module there is a hands-on lab to practice not only the technology in the module, but also the combination with the other tools you already learnt in the previous modules. It's also important to participate in the live Q&A, even if you don't have a question. You will also learn a lot from other student's questions.

What are the pre-requisites?

Good question! KNOWLEDGE: As DevOps overlaps with Development and IT Operations processes, it's a pre-requisite to have a working experience with either Software Development or System Administration. We created Module 2 to build a transition foundation for either background: As a system administrator, you will learn the basic concepts of Software Development (programming/testing/api/version control) As a developer, you will learn the basics of OS, Linux, Scripting, Networking etc. We don't want to exclude anyone, but without having a basic knowledge of either, it will be difficult to follow the bootcamp. TECHNICAL: Obviously you will need a laptop or PC either with Linux or MacOS. If you have a Windows machine, you can either install a Linux VM or get a remote linux server from any host provider. If you need assistance there, we will provide you with the relevant links.

How often is the live Q&A? How you will communicate with us?

The live Q&A session is once a week using a video communication tool. Each participant can ask questions regarding the tools they are learning and instructors will answer them. This way other students can learn from each such question/answer. Besides that we have a slack community group, with channels for each module. You can exchange with other participants there, ask questions if you get stuck with your exercise. Our instructors will also look inside these channels and provide help.

What happens after the 5 months?

After 5 months you will surely be ready for your first DevOps job :) However, you will still have access to all the online materials including the recorded Q&As, if you want to look something up or freshen up your knowledge later. But you CAN'T participate in the live sessions any more.

How will the Bootcamp help me to find a DevOps job?

You will work on real-life exercises and labs, building your portfolio step-by-step which you can also use in your job hunt. We will give you more tips on this in the last session.
